Acne: Fact and Fallacy

Many people suffer from acne. While it is generally thought of as a teen malady, it can really strike anyone from young to old.

Acne does most often break out on teenagers because they are at a time when their hormones are operating in overdrive. Because of this the three main causes of acne, increased oil production, excess of dead skin cells and bacteria trapped under the skin, are generally more prevalent within this age group.

Teens are expected to be more responsible for their personal hygiene. But they don't always know how to care properly for their skin. With the carelessness of youth, they quite often abuse it. They are also usually less likely to eat a proper diet, which can lead to imbalances in their bodies.

Thankfully, you don't have to just "wait out" acne. There are some very simple things you can do to lessen acne and acne breakouts. The first is to try to eat a balanced and healthy diet. The healthier you are, the less likely it is that you will get the bacteria that causes acne. The second way is to make sure that dead skin cells get sloughed off your face. Washing gently with a mild cleanser once a day and exfoliating once a week should insure that you don't keep dead skin cells that will trap dirt and bacteria.

Be careful not to wash too often, though. Frequent washing is a fallacy that many people still believe in. In reality, washing more than twice a day will most often result in drier skin, which will actually cause more oil to be produced. And therefore more acne.

While there used to be claims that increased exposure to sunlight would inhibit acne, this claim is no longer widely believed by the medical community. Many doctors think that exposure to sunlight may actually increase the production of oil on the skin as the skin attempts to protect itself from the sun.

Popping and squeezing acne is yet another method that has been believed to work well. Unfortunately, it will usually result in more acne as you spread the bacteria around. It could even result in scarring and pocking of the skin.

And, finally, many people still believe that certain foods cause acne over others. While it is true that some foods seem to trigger outbreaks more often than other foods, it is not the ones generally believed to cause problems. Chocolate, caffeine, oily foods and sugar do not make acne more likely, although it is believed that milk may cause trouble with some people.

However, a balanced and healthy diet will result in a healthier person and less potential for acne-causing bacteria. So, while the above-mentioned foods are not going to guarantee an outbreak, they are more likely to cause your skin to be unhealthy enough for acne to take root.

Eating healthier and basic hygiene are not the only ways to help prevent and clear up acne. There are over the counter and prescription medicines that also achieve results. And then there are more natural, holistic methods.

Whichever you prefer, you will find that acne doesn't have to be the bane of your existence. For the most part, simple common sense can help control it. And for the small percentage of breakouts that happen anyway, there are ways to combat them and hasten the disappearance of the acne.

Acne: It�s the curse of teenagers and adults alike. It�s a condition that nobody wants and can make the lives of people who suffer with it a misery, but the fact is that many people experience acne during some course of their life.

However, whether it�s just a one-off breakout or a long-term condition, treating acne prone skin correctly is very important to ensure that lasting effects, such as scars, don�t stay behind when the breakouts go away so that you are left with soft unblemished skin again.

How you treat the acne will depend a lot on how severe it is. In moderate to very severe cases, it�s best to seek out professional medical advice. Doctors can refer you to dermatologists, who have at their disposal a number of different prescription medications that can assist in treating acne and preventing further breakouts.

For those fortunate enough to just have mild breakouts, over the counter medicine will often do the trick and clear up the acne. If it is just a mild condition you might even find that it will go in time even if left untreated.

Acne is a common skin problem affecting people from young teenagers to adults. It is, in fact, a bacteria (propionibacterium acnes) that grows in a follicle. Consequently, any product that can kill the bacteria will be effective. (More on this later)

Characteristics of acne include red lesions that may have a yellowish "head" known as whiteheads. Other common types may also include blackheads, papules and pustules. It can appear all over the body and is very common on the back, chest, shoulders and the buttocks. Irritation of the skin can make acne worse so it's best not to scratch the area of your body where the acne is present. Additionally, other irritants such as tight fitting clothing, and accessories that may aggravate your skin may contribute to a worsening of your acne.

There are many different cures and applications that can ease the problem and for mild cases, the use of an over the counter product that includes benzoyl peroxide will certainly do the job on mild cases. However, for more serious cases you will need to use as much as it takes in order to rid your skin of the problem. Benzoyl peroxide actually kills the bacteria and this is the reason why it is such an effective product. Another plus for this product is that your skin will not develop a tolerance for it, unlike some other antibiotic products. A word of caution though - a low percentage of people are allergic to benzoyl peroxide, so before using it, just test a small area of your skin just in case. It can also bleach clothing so avoid contact with your clothes.

Tip: A 2.5% cream will work just as well as a 10% solution which can also cause over drying of your skin.

Cleansing

It is very important to understand that treating acne starts with very gentle and non invasive cleansing of the area affected. Harsh scrubbing will only serve to irritate the area and cause more acne problems for you. Look for a cleanser that doesn't overly dry out your skin. For your face avoid using soap.

Moisturising

To avoid overly drying out your skin, particularly on your face, you must moisturize every day. This will keep your skin in good order and will combat the initial drying and reddening of your skin from the use of benzoyl peroxide. A moisturizer that has a low dose of lactic acid in it will be useful to stopping the flakiness that can occur with overly dry skin.

Tip: If you happen to have a very severe case of acne then you should make an appointment to see a dermatologist. They can set you up on a program designed to treat your condition.

First of all, the most irritating and unsightly thing about acne is the pus and impurities that are trapped in the pore. The juice from a raw (green) papaya will help reduce swelling immediately, and prevent the formation of pus. Using the juice, seed, and skin on your face will remove whiteheads and leave your skin clear and beautiful.

Persistent pimples and acne can be cleared with garlic juice and water. Take about 3 or 4 pods of raw garlic, skinned and finely chopped, and soak it in milk for half an hour to remove the unpleasant smell. Then rub the mixture on your acne, and it will disappear.

The potassium, sulphur, phosphorus, and protein found in raw potatoes are extremely beneficial for the skin. Raw potatoes have enzymes in the pulp, and also Vitamin C and starch. How Enzymes, Lecithin, and Chlorophyll Reduce Acne

If you have scars or pockmarks that have recently occurred from acne, you may be able to clear them by using a product called Vitalzym.

For more effective yet harsher treatment, there is sulfur or resorcinol (such as Clearasil Adult Care). Acne responds best when treated early.

How To Tackle Acne - Simple Yet Effective Guidelines!

The most common problem facing a majority of young people is acne. Acne is a skin disease that generally afflicts people in their 20s. However it is also seen in some people as old as 40. Many people tend to ignore the condition, as it is not a serious or a debilitating disease. However if the condition is not treated properly, it can lead to ugly and permanent scars on the face and other parts of the body.

The condition is caused by hormonal imbalance. Acne leads to closing of the pores and that leads to black and white pores. The condition if not treated can lead to permanent scars.

Acne is of two types, Inflammatory and noninflammatory. While the noninflammatory is generally mild, the inflammatory type of acne can be quite painful. The inflammatory glands turn into pimples and sometimes turn infectious. This condition if left untreated can lead to deep and permanent scars. The condition results in white and black pores
on the face, neck back and the chest.

The first and the foremost measure to tackle acne are to follow good hygiene. Excessive intake of coffee, alcohol and a sedentary lifestyle are also the major causes for acne.

A strict regimen of good personal hygiene will bring in good results. And if this coupled with a balanced diet and proper lifestyle, the problem can be tackled most effectively.

However, for any remedy to bring in good result, it should be followed up regularly and repeatedly. Temporary measure will only bring in temporary relief. Therefore do not neglect acne when it is in a mild condition this can deteriorate and lead to a far severe chronic condition that may require expert care and treatment.
